Alvin was born on May 13, 1927, to Arthur and Emilia (nee Parschauer) Melz at Humboldt, SK, and lived most of his life in Middle Lake, SK. On October 22, 1951, he married Josephine Kaiser and they farmed east of town for 25 years. Alvin and Josephine owned and operated the hardware store which included the liquor vendor for a few years. Alvin enjoyed driving the school bus, serving as councillor and mayor of Middle Lake, and doing carpentry work. He supported the Humboldt Broncos and was an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus. He spent his final years at St. Mary’s Villa in Humboldt, where he filled his hours happily in his room, watching hockey, curling, baseball and football on T.V.
Alvin is survived by his son-in-law Gerard Holaday († daughter Cheryl) and family, David (Karen) and children Holden, Zachery and Kierstyn, Carla (Ray) and children Rae-Ann, Myles and Blayr, and Erynn (Ben) and children Nolan, Rylan and Logan; Norma (Ron) Holaday and family, Amanda (Scott) and children Kaybri and Bransen, Brenda (Jeffrey) and son Nash, Jonathan (Amie) and children Jacey, Ava and Carson, and Jillian (Steven); Audrey (Wayne) Hogemann and family, Wade (Kayli) and children Ella and Tayden, and Courtney (Jared); in-laws: Bernice Melz, Mary Cody, Len (Gladys) Kaiser, Helen Kuemper, Marg (Arnold) Ball, Norbert (Carol) Kaiser, Liz (Jim) Wilde, Al (Karen) Kaiser, Bob (Liz) Kaiser, and Donna (Bernie) Stachniak; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Josephine (nee Kaiser) Melz; daughter, Cheryl Holaday; parents, Arthur and Emilia (nee Parschauer) Melz; brother, Harry Melz; one sibling in infancy; step-mother, Bertha (nee Knelsen) Melz; nephew, Barry; in-laws: Jerome Kuemper, Ray Cody and Frances Kaiser.
