Arnold was born at home, near Pilger, SK, to John and Pauline (née Weist) Jasken on March 16, 1943. He was the fifth oldest of nine children. On July 28, 1972, he married Mona Ebert, and they were blessed with a family of five children, three daughters and two sons. Their home was in Lake Lenore, SK until 1979 when they moved to St. Benedict, SK. Arnold co- owned St. Benedict Farm Equipment for three years and then took a job as a motor grader operator for the RM of Hoodoo; a job he kept until his retirement in 2008. Arnold and Mona resided in St. Benedict until the summer of 2015, when health challenges encouraged them to move to an acreage near Saskatoon where they had closer access to family and health services. A great fan of the outdoors, Arnold hunted, fished, and gardened passionately. The number of tomato plants he wanted to grow each year exceeded 100! He also loved woodworking and his many intarsia pieces found loving homes with family and friends. Just last summer he canned tomatoes, peaches, corn, peas, and pickles. Preparing for ice fishing this year, he refurbished his old camper into an ice fishing shack and did all the work himself! Sadly, his health took a turn for the worse in December. He was admitted to hospital several times as a result, with his mobility and strength declining each visit. We are so happy that dad could remain in his own home, with the care of family, friends (Ted and Emmet), and private care aides during the last couple of months. We were able to get him out to the ice fishing shack once, where he caught a tiny little perch that will be our best fish story ever! We celebrated his 78th birthday in March with all his family surrounding him. Arnold will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his five children and their families, with 11 grandchildren: Carla (Evan) Shoforost and children, Ethan, Brooke and Jet Shoforost, Scott (Kim) Jasken and children, Sage and Sierra Jasken, Annette (Trent) Bester and her children, Aidan and Trinity Kuckartz and stepson Keldon Bester, John (Danielle) Jasken and children, Daylen and Jayde Jasken, Nancy Willems and children, Ryder and Brianna Willems; two sons-in-law, Andy Willems and Luc Kuckartz; four sisters and two brothers: Janet Deederly, Armella Knittig (Art Koenders), Lois (Harold) Wempe, Carol (Brad) Gilmore, Albert (Sherry) Jasken, and Jim Jasken; two sisters-in-law, Hedy (Jack) Opfergalt and Kaye Gartner-Jasken; numerous family members on Mona’s side of the family; and his nieces and nephews. Arnold was predeceased by his wife, Mona (née Ebert) Jasken; parents, John and Pauline (née Weist) Jasken; two brothers, Sylvester Jasken and Mel Jasken; and brother-in-law, Harold Deederly.
