Obituary

Born in Humboldt, Saskatchewan to his parents, Albert and Alice (née Lynch) Gerwing, Emil was one of a family of six children. Growing up, Emil attended Lake Lenore School and St. Peter’s College in Muenster. He started farming in 1949, while working at Bruser’s Store in Humboldt for the winter months. At a Middle Lake Sports Day, he met Marcy Zintel and they married in 1953. Their first home was in the town of Lake Lenore; however, in 1958, they moved to their farm out of town. In the community, Emil was very active in the Lions Club, School Board, Parish Council, and a number of other community clubs. He was very proud of his perfect attendance in the Lions Club. Emil was a huge supporter of the Humboldt Broncos and had season tickets for their home games. With his keen sense of humour and his speaking ability, he spent most of his summers attending weddings as the MC. In his spare time, Emil curled, played cards, and visited the casino. His love for travel started early when his parents took him on trips to visit siblings and other family. Emil and Marcy loved to travel and had many fond memories of their trips abroad. He was very proud of his family and the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.

Emil will be missed by his four children and seven grandchildren: Ron of Prince Edward County, ON; Michelle of Okotoks, AB (Eric, Marc, and Daniel); Gerry and Pat (née Opfergelt) of Lake Lenore, SK (Calvin and Mitchel); Nicole and Terry Lasko of Prince Albert, SK (Brianne and Paige); and his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Marcy; his daughter, Ruth; his parents, Albert and Alice Gerwing; and his siblings: Francis, Martha, Margaret, Albert Jr. (Sonny), and Helen.
