Gladys was born to Albert and Beth (née Mallett) Humm in Regina, Saskatchewan on November 30, 1939. There were four brothers and two sisters: Jason, Doug, Rick, Alan, Patricia, and Iris , in her family. She took her elementary school in a number of places, as the family moved quite often due to her father’s work with the C.P.R. In 1953, a posting in Daphne, SK, led to another move, and Gladys went to school there for two years, until she began correspondence courses for Grades 9 and 10, and then finished Grade 11 in Watson, SK. Later she worked for six months in Saskatoon, SK and on January 4, 1958 she married George Frerichs. The couple lived in Fort McLeod, Alberta for five years while George was employed there with a construction company. All of their children, Randal, Victoria, and David, were born during this time. They returned to Saskatchewan in 1963 and made Watson their home. Over the years, Gladys had several jobs in local grocery stores, working as a clerk. This included the Co-op grocery store for five years, until a necessary back surgery forced her to quit and take a year to recover. Gladys returned to work at Robinson’s for four years, and then ShopRite for four more years until her retirement in 1986. In her later years she moved to Quill Plains Centennial Lodge, in Watson, SK, where she lived until her passing. Gladys will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew her, especially her children and their families: Randy (Claudette) Frerichs, and son Collin (Andrea) Frerichs; Victoria (Paul) Rybchinski, and sons, Shane (Robyn) Rybchinski, and Desmond (Breannne) Rybchinski; and David (Shelley) Frerichs and daughter Lisa Fiddler (Dan Tickle); her great-grandchildren: Amelia, Everett, Hayden, Chase, Abigail, Carter, Lily, and Ben; and her brothers and sisters: Rick, Alan (Lois), and Iris (Doug). She is predeceased by her husband George (April 26, 2009); by her parents Albert and Beth (née Mallett) Humm; and by her siblings: Patricia, Doug, and Jason.
