Helen was born in Arran, Saskatchewan, on February 9, 1931, the eldest of John and Emily (nee Boyko) Mydynski. Helen spent most of her younger years in Lynn Lake, Manitoba. She married Paul James Olson in 1956. Helen and Paul resided in Spalding, SK, taking over the Olson family farm. Farming spring through fall, and returning to Lynn Lake in the winters to work in the mines was a way of life. They had one daughter, Deborah Lynn. Paul was known as a hard worker, good father and husband, as Mom would say, “Love of her life.” His life was stopped short in September, 1983. Helen enjoyed gardening, fishing, dancing, and never turned down a game of cards. She spent her summers working at Plummer’s Lodge on Great Bear Lake where she built lifetime friendships. She later took on a few local house cleaning jobs for friends that soon became her extended family. Helen loved her grandchildren and great- grandchildren, always looking forward to their visits, she called them her “twinkle toes.” Helen always had a four-legged companion by her side, Midnight, Poncho, Blackie, Oliver, or Puss. Helen later moved to Naicam before relocating to Chateau Providence in St. Brieux, where she touched many people’s lives. Helen is “gone but not forgotten.”
