Margaret was born on March 7, 1930, to Rudolph and Amalia (nee Tepper) Torwalt at home on their farm north of Jansen. She was the youngest of three children, with two brothers, Herman and Werner. Margaret was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, and attained her education at Auderville and Jansen schools. As a young girl, she helped with chores and duties around the house and farm. On June 2, 1949, Margaret married Arthur “Art” Braitenbach. During the early years of their marriage, they lived on a farm near Esk, where they grain farmed and raised some cattle and poultry. Margaret and Art moved to a house which they had built in the late 1950s in the village of Jansen. In 1960, Rodney, their only child was born. Margaret was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Ladies Aide, and other committees of her church. She loved her family, and took great interest in the activities of her son and, later on, of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Margaret was a great cook and never missed making gourmet meals for holidays, and always invited her family. In 2000, Margaret and Art moved to Luther Heights in Saskatoon, where they also took part in the church at their new home. Margaret enjoyed the company of family, friends, and neighbors. Later on, Art’s health began to fail and Margaret was his sole caregiver until his death on June 19, 2005. In the fall of 2020, due to her failing health and the need for more care, Margaret moved to Luther Intermediate Care Home.
Margaret is survived by and will always be missed by her son, Rodney (Myrna) Braitenbach and family, Tracy (Wilson) Johnston and children Charleigh, Jett and Cameron, Jared Braitenbach and children Ember and Weston; brother-in-law, Irvine (Ella) Braitenbach; and by many nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Braitenbach; parents, Rudolph and Amalie (nee Tepper) Torwalt; brothers: Herman (Lydia) Torwalt and Werner (Ruth) Torwalt; Art’s parents, William and Natalia (nee Elke) Braitenbach; brothers-in- law: Gustive (Margaret) Braitenbach, Daniel (Dorothy) Braitenbach, and Walter (Sylvia) Braitenbach; and by sister-in-law, Elsie (Harry) Jeary.
