Obituary

Jean passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at the age of 87. She was born on the Davidson family farm in the Willow Hill district near Sylvania, Saskatchewan. After her schooling she worked at a retail store in Tisdale. One night after a ball game she went home with her friend Beulah Anderson and there she met her future husband. Jean and Wellie were married on September 15, 1954. Throughout Wellie’s career with the Sask Wheat Pool they lived in Armley, Eldersley, Buchanan, and Kelvington.  After retirement they moved to Humboldt for 28 years, returning to Kelvington in 2018. Wherever she lived, Jean got involved joining various community and church groups. During the winter you could find her at the curling rink or bowling alley and in the summer, you could find her at the lake enjoying camping, boating, and fishing. Dancing was a big passion for Jean and Wellie. They loved to take their camper and head out to polka-fests, old time dances, square dances, and fiddle contests. Jean’s favorite performer was Charley Pride and she attended many of his concerts. She loved to travel. Together, Jean and Wellie took many trips throughout Canada and the U.S., forming many lifelong friendships on their bus trips. Jean also loved to garden and to grow flowers, and she always had to have a lush green lawn. Entertaining was a joy for Jean, and she spent time writing and performing in skits for birthday and anniversary parties. Depending on the costume she was wearing you may not have recognized her! Family and friends were most important to Jean. She attended all special family events and was a cheerleader at sporting events for her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.  Left to cherish her memory are Wellie, her husband of 67 years; daughters Cheryle Gutek and Brenda Anderson; grandchildren: Steven (Stacy) Gutek, Gerald, Nevaeh, and Owyn; Jennifer (Kyle) Saboe, Aniston, and Brooklynn; Karla Gutek, Charley Mae and Marshal; brother-in-law Don Edmunds; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her son-in-law Gerald Gutek; her grandson Bradley Gutek; her parents, Dora and Frank Davidson; sister and brother-in-law Fern and Bev Brown; brothers Les and Earl; and in-laws: Ross and Sadie, Orvel and Madeleine, Roy Anderson, Mabel and Marshal Franklin, and Beulah Edmunds. A celebration of Jean’s life will be held at the Kelvington United Church on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at 2:00 p.m., in Kelvington, SK.
