Ray was born on December 30, 1928 on the family homestead near Muenster, Saskatchewan. His elementary school was St. Francis School in the Muenster district, and he attended high school in Muenster at St. Peter’s College. On July 11, 1957 he married Veronica Knoblauch at St. Gertrude Church near Muenster. After their marriage they lived in Regina, Saskatchewan until June 1959, when they moved to the family homestead near Muenster where they raised their six children. Ray was a plumber by trade, and in 1965 started his own plumbing business, Ray’s Plumbing & Heating. He was a handyman and could fix anything, taking it apart, figuring out how it worked, and putting it back together; he took pride in doing a great job of everything he did, and in doing it right the first time. An excellent gardener, Ray was proud of his wonderful produce, especially his potatoes and corn. Family was important to him and many family gatherings were filled with cards, either Kaiser or Cribbage. Ray will be remembered as a quiet and wise man who was always willing to help and to be there for family and friends. He will be deeply missed and forever remain in the hearts of his family. Ray is survived by his six children, 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Cynthia Leier (Rio Sulimani) and family, Laura Leier (Michael Rachiele) and children, Poppy and Scott, and John Leier; Darrell (Sharon) Biwer; Rhonda Biwer (David Walden) and family, Jordon Judge and Brianna Judge; Donna Hughes and family, Brett Hughes and Deanna Hughes; Colleen (Gary) Reddekopp and family, Lisa (Chris) Parisien, and Michael Reddekopp; Brad Biwer (LeAnn Hilgers) and family, Acacia Biwer and Andrew Biwer; sisters-in-law, Caroline Biwer and Irene (Joe) Holtz; brother-in-law Lorne Suchan; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Veronica (née Knoblauch) Biwer; parents Frank and Isabel (née Lins) Biwer; sisters: Vera (Henry) Poth, Margaret (Jim) Daniels, and Rose (Martin) Raab; brother Richard Biwer; brothers-in-law: Joe (Helen) Knoblauch, Ben Knoblauch, Alphonse Knoblauch, Edwin Knoblauch, Leo Knoblauch; and sister-in-law Ella Suchan. Special thanks to the nurses and care team at The Hospice at Glengarda in Saskatoon for the amazing care they gave, making Dad’s final days comfortable, and for bringing out his sense of humour and a smile or two. We are forever grateful.
