Richard was born in Humboldt and raised on a farm south of Carmel. After graduating high school, he worked at Coyle Chev-Olds, Cash Motors and Hergott Farm Equipment. In 1986 he, along with his brother, started South 20 Dodge Chrysler and remained there for 30 some years. Richard and his wife, Sandra, have two daughters.
