Obituary

Roy began his life journey on December 15, 1956 in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, the third child and second son of Walter and Lydia (née Wollman) Thiel. He grew up on the family farm northeast of Bruno and rode the bus to attend school in Bruno, graduating in 1975. He was active in sports, participated in track and field, and earned high marks in academics. Roy especially enjoyed playing baseball and curling and listened to sports of all kinds (except golf)! He farmed with his dad but also took a welding course and worked at various jobs off the farm. In his leisure time Roy loved reading (science fascinated him), playing cards, chess, and games (like Sequence, Suduko, Cribbage), plus fishing and quiet time gardening, as he loved being outdoors. He enjoyed watching hockey or football, but especially loved Rider games! Roy was keen on health and nutrition, watched gluten and took his supplements. He was an active person and took walks around the farm besides. If indoors, he enjoyed all kinds of movies as long as these were not full of violence. Roy was a selfless, gentle soul who was generous with his time and loved helping others. He loved his community and all the people in his life. Roy and Donna had a loving relationship and valued spending time with their kids and families. Roy was always smiling! Roy will be lovingly remembered by his partner of 12 years, Donna Albert; her children: Patricia Albert (son Tristan) of Prince Albert, SK, Sabrina (Delbert) Waschawitch of Lloydminster, AB, Bryce (Tamara) Albert of Prince Albert, SK; Roy’s children: Desirae (Vijay) Viswanathan and their children Sachin and Bodhi of Calgary, AB, Logan (Julianne) and their children Lynden and Giovanni, of Okotoks, AB, Delani Thiel of Halifax, NS; and Riley Thiel of Saskatoon SK; their mother Wendy (née Haeusler) Thiel of Grande Prairie, AB; brothers: Denis (Pearl) Thiel of Fort Saskatchewan, AB, and Larry (Rosanne) Thiel of Humboldt, SK; brother-in-law Dave Blair of Choiceland, SK; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Roy was predeceased by his parents Walter and Lydia (née Wollman) Thiel; his sister Doris (Thiel) Blair; and great-nephew Zackery Worbeck-Blair.
