Sandra Ann Moorman was born July 15th, 1947 to Richard and Caroline (née Hartl) Gerwing in Humboldt, Saskatchewan. For the first fifteen years of her life, she lived on the family farm, North of St. James, SK where she was her dad’s right-hand helper. A fond memory for her was one visit when her cousins came out to the farm and all the kids found pennies in the cattails! But the next day’s haul was not so plentiful, as nothing was found. She attended Norwegian Grove School through Grades 1-8. With the family’s move to Lake Lenore, SK Sandra started work at Lake Hardware at the age of 16. Sandra was relied upon to open the store at all times when requests were made for hunting supplies, licenses, or hardware. Upon turning 20, she married Ron Moorman on July 27, 1968. There were three children born to them. On January 14, 1969, Kurt arrived, followed by Bradley on September 6, 1971 and finally, Melissa on February 13, 1974. Sandra took much pride in the family farm, along with her garden and flowers. Harvest was a special time, creating many treasured memories. Sandra’s famous canned dill pickles and June berry pies were a favourite among many. With 1995 came a big move to Humboldt where she began work at the Bella Vista Inn as a housekeeper, and then moved on to a career as a caregiver at St. Elizabeth’s Convent. During her time there she brought joy and smiles to the residents, especially at Christmas when she placed stockings with goodies on their doors. Winter brought curling to the TV, which was a favorite pastime for Sandra for hours on end! In 2005, she battled breast cancer and through treatment and faith she became a survivor. Sandra was never one to complain and thought only of others. The Harry Ford Centre in Humboldt was her home for the last few years. She made many new friendships there and her gatherings with them were very important to her. Throughout her life, Sandra valued family gatherings of food, laughter and creating memories. Truly, FAMILY WAS EVERYTHING to her, especially her four grandchildren, who were the joy of her heart. Sandra will be lovingly remembered by Ron Moorman of Fulda, SK; her three children and their families: Kurt (Heather Teiber) Moorman of Fulda, SK; Bradley (Vanessa Dauk) Moorman, Odysseus and Emma of Lake Lenore/Humboldt, SK; and Melissa (Todd) Bay, Brehanna and Kieran of Humboldt, SK; her sister Lois (Roger) Duerr of Humboldt SK and her family: Rhonda (Dave) Mortensen, Brody, and Maya; Jeff Duerr; and Tanya (Chris Koehler) Duerr, Braden, Joshua, and Nathan; and one brother Glen (Bonnie Komonoski) Gerwing of Lake Lenore, and his family: Katelyn (Brad) Colibaba and Kelsey (Corey) Ehalt. Sandra was predeceased by her parents Richard and Caroline Gerwing; grandchildren Brock and Miranda Moorman; nephew Ryan Eckl; parents-in-law John and Mary Moorman; and brother-in-law Dennis Zaporosky.
